How can I change my aspect ratio on my TiVo?
The TV aspect ratio describes the relationship between the width and height of your TV screen. The aspect ratio of a standard TV is 4:3. For a widescreen TV, it is 16:9.
To set the TV aspect ratio on a TiVo Series3 or Premiere series box, go to TiVo Central and select Messages & Settings > Settings > Video > TV Aspect Ratio.
Select 16:9 Widescreen if you have a widescreen TV.
Note: You MUST choose this aspect ratio to use the HD menus on a Premiere series box. You must also of 720p or higher.
Select 4:3 Standard Screen if your standard TV does not change its display based on the signal it receives.
Select 4:3 Smart Screen (available on Series3 HD and HD boxes only) if your 4:3 TV can automatically change its display based on whether it is currently receiving a high definition signal or standard definition signal. (If your TV has this feature, you probably notice that it adds bars to the top and bottom of an HD picture.)
Refer to the manual that came with your TV if you are unsure of the setting you should choose.
Note: You can also correct the aspect ratio of individual shows. Go to Changing a Program's Aspect Ratio on Series3 and Premiere series boxes for more information.
