How do I program my remote to control a TV/stereo?
Programming TV power, volume, and mute
You can program your TiVo remote to turn your TV on and off, control the volume, and cycle through the TV input settings, so you only have to use one remote to control your TV.
Step 1: From TiVo Central, select Messages & Settings > Settings > Remote, CableCARD, & Devices > Remote Control.
Step 2: Highlight Part 1: TV power, volume, and mute and press SELECT. The DVR displays a list of television brands. Use the UP ARROW and DOWN ARROW buttons and the CHAN DOWN and CHAN UP buttons on the TiVo remote to highlight your TV brand and then press SELECT. The TV Remote Codes screen appears.
Step 3: Follow the instructions on this screen to enter a code into your remote control. If the first code does not work, repeat the instructions to enter the second remote control code, and so forth, until you find a code that works.
Search for a code to control TV power and volume
1. Cover the end of the TiVo remote control with your hand.
2. Hold down the TiVo and TV Power buttons simultaneously until the red (or amber) light on the remote control remains on.
3. Remove your hand from the end of the TiVo remote control.
4. Enter code 0999.
5. After you enter the code, the red (or amber) light will flash three times and then remain on.
6. Press Channel Up once every two seconds. This will test hundreds of codes, one by one.
IMPORTANT: Do not go any faster than this or you may skip over a code that works.
If you press Channel Up and your TV turns off, press Enter to select the code. Press the TV Power button to test the code. If your TV turns on, you have successfully programmed the remote.
If you cycle through all the codes, the red LED will go off, indicating that you have tried all the codes. If this happens, or if you selected a code but the TV does not respond to the test, try again to make sure you did not skip over your code by going too fast.
Programming A/V volume and mute
If you connected an A/V receiver to your DVR to provide audio through your sound system, you can program the TiVo remote to control the volume and mute functions on the A/V receiver instead of on your TV.
Step 1: If you just finished programming the TV power, volume and mute, press SELECT in response to the prompts until you reach the Remote Control Setup screen. (Or from TiVo Central select Messages & Settings > Settings > Remote, CableCARD, & Devices > Remote Control.)
Step 2: Highlight Part 2:A/V volume, and mute and press SELECT. Use the UP ARROW and DOWN ARROW buttons and the CHAN DOWN and CHAN UP buttons on the TiVo remote to highlight your A/V receiver brand and then press SELECT. The A/V Remote Codes screen appears.
Step 3: Follow the instructions on the A/V Remote Codes screen to enter a code into your remote control. If the first code does not work, repeat the instructions to enter the second code, and so forth, until you find a code that works.
Step 4: Use the TV remote control (not the TiVo remote) to turn down or mute the sound on your TV; once you choose an A/V receiver code, the TiVo remote will control the power on your TV, but not the TV volume or mute functions.

Programming the TV input function
You may also want to program the TiVo remote to cycle through the video input settings on your TV. For example, if you have the TiVo DVR connected to HDMI port 1 on the TV, and a game system connected to HDMI port 2, you will be able to switch between watching shows on your DVR and playing games by pressing the TV INPUT button on the TiVo remote.\
