How can I make my wireless network more secure?
Security is an important part of a home wireless network. Most wireless routers and modems are already pre-secured. If you are prompted for a wireless key or password when initially logging into your wireless network, your router or modem is already secured. If your wireless device does not require a wireless key or password, your wireless network is not secured. With an unsecured wireless connection, anyone with a wireless device can connect to your network and use your Internet access without your knowledge. Remember, you are responsible for any Internet activity that occurs through your modem or router.
Wireless modems offered by Sparklight include encryption and security features such as firewalls to help protect against unwanted access to your wireless network. The security features are turned on by default.
If you have your own router, you can enable the security features yourself. If you are unsure how to enable the security features, the router's manual will have the information you need. Also, you can locate the same information on the router's manufacture's website or by telephone contact.
You can also change your WiFi Password to ensure your network is secure. To do so, please view our Changing Your WiFi Password article.
