Changing Your WiFi Password
There may be times when you want to change or retrieve your WiFi password to ensure your network remains secure. Tips on creating strong passwords can be found in this support article HERE.
Although not required, it is recommended that you connect a device to your modem with an ethernet cable to avoid disconnection while changing your WiFi information.
If you are leasing a modem through Sparklight, the easiest and recommended way to change or retrieve your password is by doing so within your online customer account.
Online Account method:
- Log in to your online Sparklight Online Account
- Click the ‘Services’ tab on the top navigation menu. Click on the 'Internet' sub-tab if it doesn't automatically open
- Scroll down to the section labeled 'WiFi Network'
- To retrieve your password, click 'Retrieve Password' and to change your password click 'Change Password' and enter your new password twice then click on the 'Change Password' button to save your new password.
If your modem is incompatible with this feature, you will see a message that will let you know; the message will include a list of compatible modems. If you cannot make these changes or need additional assistance, please contact our Technical Support team at at 877-692-2253.
NOTE: Technical Support can only assist with leased Sparklight modems.
To change your WiFi password on a Hitron modem, follow these steps:
- Connect to your Sparklight Internet service
- Open a browser and enter ‘192.168.0.1’ in your browser's URL address bar, which will bring you to a login page
- Enter the following username: ‘cusadmin’
- Your password by model:
- CGNVM-3582 / CGNM-2252: 'password'
- CODA-458x: use modem's MAC address, all caps with no colons
- CODA-5xxx: WiFi Pre-Shared Key / Password
- Click 'Wireless' from menu bar across the top of the page
- Change the Network Name (SSID) field to your desired WiFi name if you want to change the name of your WiFi
- In the Password field, change the password to your desired WiFi password. Note that the password must be at least 8 characters in length, then click ‘Save Changes’
Note: To change the wireless info for the 5GHz Wi-Fi network, click the 5G tab above the words 'Basic Settings’, and repeat steps 6 and 7.
To change your WiFi password on a Sparklight non-Hitron model modem, follow these steps:
- Connect to your Sparklight Internet service
- Open a browser and enter ‘192.168.0.1’ in your browser's URL address bar
- Enter the following username: ‘admin’
- Enter the following password: ‘password’
- Under Basic Setup, it is recommended to change the Wireless Network Name (SSID)
- Under Security Settings, delete the current entry in the Pre-shared Key location and replace it with your own password/code, then click ‘Apply’
Your WiFi password has been changed. Any WiFi connected devices which used the old password to connect will need to be updated with your newly created password.
To change your WiFi password on a Sparklight Motorola SURFboard model modem, follow these steps:
- Connect to your Sparklight Internet service
- Open a browser and enter 192.168.0.1 in your browser's URL address bar
- Enter the following username: ‘admin’
- Enter the following password: ‘motorola’
Under the Wireless link at the top, choose Primary Network Settings. (At this point it is recommended to change the Network Name). Delete the current entry in the Passphrase location and replace it with your own password, then click ‘Apply’.
