If you have received your self-installation box and are ready to get connected to the internet, we’ve got you covered. The videos below will show you what is inside your self-installation box and how to get everything set up!
Step 1: What’s in Your Box
Inside your box you should see a welcome letter, an installation guide, a modem guide, and tips on managing your internet connection. Your equipment should include a modem, a power cord for the modem, a modem stand, a coaxial cable and an ethernet cable.
Step 2: Connecting Modem to Coaxial Outlet
Start by finding the most optimal location to place your modem. The location you choose should be centrally located, visible, off the ground, and away from anything that might block your signal.
Step 3: Modem Power and Initialization
Next, take the coaxial cable and connect it to the modem and cable outlet. Be sure the connection is hand-tight and snug – no tools required.
To begin your modem initialization, plug your modem power cord into the nearest wall power outlet. You will see lights flashing on the front of your modem during this phase. This can take up to 10 minutes to fully activate.
When the status symbol light is solid white on the front of your modem, you’re ready for the next step.
Step 4: Modem Initialization and Troubleshooting Outlet Issues
If the modem light continues flashing for more than 10 minutes, simply try another cable outlet. Continue repeating steps 2 through 4 until you find an active cable outlet. If you’ve tried all outlets in your home and the modem will NOT complete the Modem Initialization step, please contact our 24/7 Technical Care Team at 1-877-692-2253 for further assistance.
Step 5: Connecting Desktop or Laptop
We recommend this step be completed using your laptop or desktop computer to ensure your modem is properly activated. If you do not have a laptop or desktop computer readily available, installation can be completed using your tablet or mobile phone.
If you are completing installation with your mobile phone or tablet, you will now need to connect to your WiFi network before moving to the next step. Complete the steps outlined in the ‘Connecting Devices to the Internet’ video, then return to the ‘New Modem Activation’ video.
Step 6: New Modem Activation
For laptop or desktop computers, connect the ethernet cable from the modem to your computer.
If you are completing the installation with your phone or tablet, please make sure you have completed the steps in the ‘Connecting to WiFi’ video before proceeding.
Now from your laptop, desktop computer, phone, or tablet open a new web browser.
Because this is your first time connecting to the internet, your browser may show an error page. This is OK since your modem is now online. It should automatically refresh momentarily, or you can refresh your web browser.
There will now be a modem activation page displayed. Click the green activate button on this page to begin the activation of your modem, which can take up to 5 minutes. You will know when activation is complete once the web page displays ‘Modem Activation Complete.’ You are now ready to connect all your other devices to WiFi.
Step 7: Connecting to WiFi
Whether you’re connecting a laptop, mobile device or gaming system, simply find your WiFi settings on your device and choose your network. If you’re unsure what your network name and password is, this information can be found on the back or side of your modem.
Once you select your network and enter the password, your device will then be connected to WiFi.
